From Security Guard to Digital Marketer : My SEO-Powered Career Shift

My name is Ahmed Abdelaziz, and this is the story of how I transitioned from military service and security work to becoming a digital marketer with global ambitions.

I graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems from AlAlson High Institute. Shortly after, I completed my mandatory military service in Egypt, serving in the Signal Corps under Military Intelligence. I finished my service in 2010 as a Corporal.

After leaving the army, I began searching for a job in my field. I worked briefly as an IT engineer in a well-known Egyptian company, but the 2011 revolution led to mass layoffs. The country was in chaos, and despite many attempts, I couldn’t find stable work in IT.

In 2014, I joined a tourism company as a representative. I quickly proved my technical skills and took on multiple roles — receptionist, social media designer, and hotel booking agent. But as tourism declined, I had to leave.

I tried returning to IT, worked in a computer accessories shop, and eventually took a job as a security guard in a mall. It wasn’t ideal, but it paid better. Later, I joined a customer service company as a technical support agent, helping clients with internet issues. It was closer to my academic background, but the environment was toxic and unproductive.

In 2016, I became a security guard at an international school. My fluency in English helped me stand out, even though the job didn’t require it. I was often the only one able to communicate with foreign teachers and non-Arabic-speaking parents. Despite my efforts, I was never promoted. I even proposed joining the ICT department, and the Headmaster approved — but my direct manager rejected it out of jealousy.

I considered quitting, but then COVID-19 hit in 2020. I stayed, and during that time, I discovered digital marketing. I fell in love with the field and decided to pursue it seriously.

By the end of 2024, I enrolled in Coursera and completed Google’s Digital Marketing & E-Commerce course. I earned my certificate and officially became a digital marketer.

Today, I’m building my online presence, sharing what I’ve learned, and preparing to work remotely with international companies. My dream is to migrate to Canada and build a better life through digital marketing.
